PRODUCT INFORMATION
General Description
Rubellite from Karibib, Namibia, are non-gemmy crystals with a rich pink colour in a white Quartz matrix associated to purple Vermiculite and Schist. This is a beautifully affordable commercial specimen grade deposit. Gemmy Tourmaline specimens are often wildly expensive and out of reach for most collectors. A percentage of specimens also have a blue colouration in the matrix (possibly Indicolite – Blue Tourmaline) but this would require testing. Tourmaline Group comprises trigonal borosilicates of the cyclosilicate superclass. The first use of the name Tourmaline dates to 1794 by Richard Kirwan. Rubellite is the name given to a pink to red coloured member of the group which is rich in Li and mostly Fe Mg free. The group’s broader nomenclature was updated in 2011. Price is grade dependent.
